Department was established along with the establishment of the Government First Grade College women’s tumkur in 2014. The department started with only one physics laboratory now increased to 3 laboratories and all are well equipped.  The department of physics was started in the year 2014 with only 28students for the 1st B.Sc and the student’s strength enhanced to 237 in just 6 years. Department is having an ive not just toproduce mere graduates but also to develop exceptional abilities to assert their individuality and to explore newer within them. The department has 5 permanent staff and 2 guest faculties one among them was a doctorate degree holder and three more staffs are pursuing PhD. Many members of the department regularly publish papers in leading international scientific journals with high impact factor. Young members of the department are very active in research, publishing and attracting financial resources.

Many faculties of the department are involved in best practices which enhance quality of teaching.  All the teachers are make use of teaching learning material and other resources to teacheffectively.

Action plan

The department has plans

• To train students in various employable skills like Soft skills and personality development.
• To train them for competitive exams.
• Train them in Basic ICT, Entrepreneurial skills and interpersonal skills.
• To do science projects on their own so that their employability is increased.
• Field surveys, Industrial visits and study tours will be conducted regularly.
• Encouraged to do online and  certificate courses,
• Workshops, seminar etc, are conducted every year so that Students are encouraged to take up research projects and innovative projects. 

Activities of the department:

• Motivational classes are conducted to increase an urge to complete their courses.
• Attempts are made to increase transition rate and pass percentage of weak students.
• Courses and training to develop life skills and learning abilities.
• Life skills training will be organized through placement cell.
• Make the students to learn Academic skills through tutorial and other means.
• Promotes cultural skills through extracurricular activities
• Field surveys, Industrial visits and study tours will be conducted regularly.
• Project works, periodical seminars, workshops, special lectures, group discussions will be arranged.
• The modern pedagogical tools like ICT will be used more and more to make the learning experience more effective.
