Government First Grade College, Puttur (DK District) was established on 25th May 2007 by the Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka (Vide Govt. Order No. ED/144/YoYo ka/2007, Bangalore, Dated 27-04-2007) with a noble aspiration to make higher education available to all, especially to economically weaker sections of the society. The College has been affiliated to Mangalore University.
The college is situated in the outskirt of Puttur city in a calm and quite greenery environment. It has 5.9 acres of land. The college building has sufficient number of class rooms. The library was partially computerized, consists of moderate collection of books including reference, subject oriented, career guidance, general reading books and reading room with journals, popular magazines and newspapers. College has 10 permanent teaching staff including librarian and a physical director, 23 guest faculties, three permanent non-teaching staff and one attender. Also the college betterment committee has appointed two clerical staff and one unskilled worker.
In the academic year 2019-20. The total student strength is 276. In addition to the curricular activities, the college is constantly engaged in overall development of students in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. In this connection, college NSS (National Service Scheme) unit with a strength of 100 students, Rovers Scouts with a strength of 52 students, Youth Red Cross Unit with a strength of 53 Students and sports and cultural departments have been affording their efforts. In order to develop communication skill and social skill among the students, the college is conducting training programs by the placement cell.
