LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CENTRE

Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore. The inception of the library of Government First Grade College, Mangalore, concurs with the establishment of its parent institution in the year 2007. The main ive of this library is to provide good reading material to the students, staff and the general needy. The primary aim of our college library is to cater to the needs of the economically and socially backward students. Our Library is primarily meant for the bonafide under graduate students, faculty, alumni and members of the staff of the Government First Grade College, Mangalore. Library is the Treasure-house of Knowledge. It helps the students to grow intellectually and to improve their general knowledge. Every year the library is updated with the grant provided by the Department of Collegiate Education.

 MISSION OF THE LIBRARY

  • To acquire, classify, organize the library resources and dissemination of information.
  • To facilitate teaching and learning by providing relevant library resources.
  • To enhance the self-learning skills among staff and students.

 

MEMBERSHIP

Permanent Membership

 

  • All permanent teaching and staff members of the college.
  • Authorized students of 1st to 6th semester of all UG courses of the college,
  • All Post-graduate Students.

 

 

 TERMS & CONDITIONS

  • Prescribed application duly filled and affixed by a recent photograph shall be submitted to the library.
  • Membership is granted on the understanding that they legally bind themselves to return all the documents issued to them and obtain a ‘No due Certificate’ at the time of termination of their membership.

 

TIMINGS

College library is kept open between 8.30 A.M. and 5.30 P.M. on all working days except on Saturdays. Saturday library will be closed by 3-30 p.m.

PROCEDURES OF THE LIBRARY

  • Every person who enters the library will sign the visitor’s register.
  • Deposit your personal belongings at the property counter.
  • Switch off Mobile phones or to keep on silent mode in the library premises.
  • Follow Instructions given by the librarian or the staff at the counter
  • Students can retain the books for a period of 14 days. New books and magazines are displayed on the racks to create awareness among students and staff. All staff members including guest lecturers are the members of the library. Permanent lectures are permitted to borrow 15 books whereas guest lectures are permitted to borrow only 4 books at a time.  
  • There is a separate book bank facility for the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students in which they can avail 4 or 5 books during the commencement of the semester and they can return it at the end of semester.
  • In case of lost or damage of book, replacement of book has to be made by the user.

TOTAL COLLECTION

The college library has a total collection of 16087 books (9921 Titles). They include books on various disciplines like Commerce, History, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Social work, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry, English, Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tulu and General Books. Dictionaries, Encyclopaedias, Year books and other reference books are kept separately.  Library has a separate book bank facility for the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe students. They can borrow 4 or 5 books depending on their requirements.

ELECTRONIC DATABASE

Library has the membership of UGC- INFLIBNET N-LIST program. Users can make use of this for their teaching, learning, and research. The N-LIST programme provides access to e-resources to students, researchers and faculty members through server installed at the INFLIBNET Centre. The authorized users, can access 6,150 electronic journals and 31,64,309 electronic books.

LIBRARY AUTOMATION

The Library is fully automated with leading library management software solutions e-Granthalaya 4.0 which give a user-friendly interface for searching resources in the library along with its positions and availability status in the year 2020. e-Granthalaya 4.0 Cloud version installed for uploading and preserving Library data on cloud server of National Informatics Centre and thus enabling Web OPAC service to the students and community.
