| I am happy to introduce Government College for Women, Mandya, to all those who are committed to the spread of higher education. This institution took its birth in the year 1971 thanks to the efforts of Mr. K.V. Shankara Gowda, the great visionary and a giant in the field of education in general and higher education in particular. The institution, then, was started in the neighbouring premises. Within a few years, the institution acquired the present campus which now boasts of lush evergreen environment in consonance with Mother Nature. I am happy to place on record that the institution was started with all popular streams, namely, Science, Humanities and Commerce. Over the years, the institution recorded phenomenal growth and progress both in terms of courses and intake of students. Not satisfied with graduates courses, the institution embarked upon the challenging task of offering multi-disciplinary post-graduate programmes. But this is only the tip of the ice burg. The Department of Computer Science which is still in its nascent state is offering an add-on course to train the students in computer literacy. The faculty of Life Science has initiated Nature and Adventure club which facilities the feeling of oneness with nature. The college also promotes the physical wellbeing of the students with excellent cooperation from the Department of Physical Education. Commitment to society is addressed by ever active NSS. The hostel situated within the campus helps students to stay at the palace of study instead of travelling from their places, culture program and co-curricular activities are monitored by the student union. Thereby the institution promotes all-round development of personality instead of focusing on examination alone. In this manner the institution strives hard to make the students most responsible and creative citizen of future.
