The Government First Grade College, Magadi, was incepted in 1984 in magadi town, the land of Kempe Gowda, the Chieftain of the region. and was the first Degree College in this locality. The institution has been in existence for nearly three decades catering to varied needs of aspirants hailing from diverse rural society. The Institution is providing best education to large number of students belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, OBC at the UNDER-GRADUATE level to the poor, less-privileged, marginalized and all other weaker sections of the society at affordable cost directed by the Government of Karnataka.
The college initially was housed in a small building, but with the funds from the Government of Karnataka & donars like Ramaswamy Iyengar, Padmavathamma Ramaswamy Iyengar, Rajagopal T. R., Satish the college now has its own building spread over 5.8 acres of land & grants procured from the Government of Karnataka is helping further extension of the college building in Magadi town.
The college is affiliated to Bangalore University & is recognized by the UGC under 2(f) and Accredited by NAAC with grade ‘B’. It has about 1252 students with 699 female students and 553 male students studying in UG and PG programmes. The college has four UG programmes, and two PG programs.
