SWOC ANALYSIS

Strength

  • The College is located in the heart of the city with easy accessibility and has more than One acre of land and own building with sufficient infrastructure.

  • The College is affiliated to University of Mysore, one of the oldest and premier Universities which extends the college very good academic support.

  • The College is recognized under section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC and receives several grants for the overall development of the college.

  • The Department of Collegiate Education, the apex body that supervises the College, has introduced many innovative initiatives and the same are implemented in the college.

  • The College has well qualified and competent teaching faculty with Eighteen  of them possessing Ph.D. Degree. 

  • The college library has more than 26000 academic and scholarly books and subscription to N-List e-resources and provides access to more than 6,000  e-journals and about 1,00,000 e-books.

  • The college has a UGC-Network Resource Centre with internet facility and other infrastructure required for teaching and research.

  • Under RUSA and Jnanasnagama the college has 12 Smart Classrooms.

  • E-learning initiative using EDUSAT.

  • A very active award winning NSS unit that facilitates personality development of the students.

  • Encouragement to participate in extra-curricular activities like, sports and cultural activities.

  • Remedial classes for the slow learners and training for competitive examinations.

  • Use of ICT in teaching - learning process.

  • Students support in the form of Scholarships, Fee concessions, Prizes and Awards.

 

Weakness

 

  • Most of the students are first generation learners in their families.

  • Majority of the students have difficulty in understanding and communicating in English.

  • Lack of sufficient open space for sports activities.

  • Shortage of permanent teachers for some of the subjects.

  • Inadequate number of Non-Teaching staff and the Group ā€˜Dā€™ staff. There are no Lab attendants.

Opportunities

 

  • Increase in the student strength year after year has created scope for introduction of PG Courses.

  • Under the RUSA, the College has been receiving funds periodically for creating and infrastructure and for other developments.

  • Conducive environment to carry out research activities.

 

Challenges

  • Improving the results in some subjects especially in English.

  • Changing needs and expectation of stakeholders and the industry vis-a-vis graduates seeking jobs. 

  • Significant percentage of dropouts.

  •  Insufficient number of permanent teaching and non-teaching staff.

  • Motivating the students to overcome their inferiority complex and developing their communication skills and preparing them to face global challenges.
