PREFACE

 

It is my proud privilege to place before academicians, administrators and others, the Profile of Department of Commerce and Management, GFGC, K R Nagar, Mysore, which was started in the year 1967 and has a rich history of distinguished teachers, meritorious students, healthy academic environment and a vibrant extracurricular activity. The department has both UG and PG segments and fulfills the requirements of students. From the academic year 2020-21 the Department of Commerce and Management got separated into 2 departments.

I am sure the following pages will give a clear insight into the past, present and future prospects of our department.

INTRODUCTION

 

The Department of Commerce started functioning from the academic year 1976 with help of pioneer like Prof. Kariyappa, Prof. Jagadeesh, Prof. Rajashekar and other dedicated faculties. Behind the success of the department there lies the dedication of seniors, team spirit and co-operation of K. R. Nagar Municipality, Department of Collegiate Education, and many political personalities of K. R. Nagar Taluk.  

 

BBM Course started in the year 2004. Most of the students are from rural areas, have got the opportunities to study the distinguished course.

 

Each class room in the department well-furnished and ICT enabled. The department has Computer Lab with Internet connections and connected with printer and Department Library with high standard reference books to enlighten and improve the performance of the students in their academic and research works.

FACULTY PROFILE

 

The department has 2 full time teaching faculties with 05 guest faculties headed by Prof. N D Sowmya. Both the full time faculties have cleared the NET/SLET exams conducted by UGC and State Universities. The faculties have been appointed by the Directorate of Collegiate education (DCE), Department of Higher Education, Government of Karnataka on the requirement of the workload in the Department. Full time faculties appointed against sanctioned post and Guest faculties on the student strength.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES

 

Departmental Staff Meeting

The departmental meeting will be held every fort- night to discuss the following issues regarding the Academic and Non-academic activities.

 

  • Preparation of the Time Table for every Semester and subject allotment in the beginning of every Semester
  • Preparation of academic calendar to conduct Internal Assessment Test, Evaluation and upload the Marks
  • Planning to organize the Special Lectures, Seminar, Workshops etc.
  • Organize the other programs as mentioned in the Action plan.
  • Conduct the remedial classes for the students
  • Discipline issues of the students

 

Internal Assessment

Internal Assessment conducted at department level as per the University guidelines. As per the guidelines the scheme of examination is divided as External and Internal Assessment. As a part of Internal Assessment 20 Marks are allotted out of 100 Marks. The systematic evaluation process is being laid down by the department to assess the marks. Percentage of Attendance and Assignments also to be considered while allotting the Internal Marks. Same to be uploaded in the University Exam Portal and every student can check and verify the internals personally.

Time Table for the Academic Year

The department has to prepare the Time Table for the every semester in the coordination with college time table committee. The Committee has prescribed the time table as per the departmental guidelines. The time table prepared under various levels such as:

  • Department wise Time Table (College Level by Time Table Committee)
  • Class and Day Wise Time Table (Department Level by the Department)
  • Faculty wise Time Table (Department Level by the Department)

 

Student Participation in College and Inter-Collegiate Activities

The department encourages the students to participate in various Inter and Intra College activities. The department every year organizes Intra Class Events to provide opportunities to students for exploring their ideas and knowledge.
