About College

Government First Grade College is centrally located and is in the heart of Kolar Town. It is easily accessible to students of surrounding areas as it lies in close proximity to Railway and Bus Stations. Kolar is a small town located 70 kms away from Bangalore. Since the college is affiliated to Bengaluru North University, the curriculum revision and other related evaluation procedures were followed as per the directions of the Bengaluru North University.

The College has an imposing ‘L’ Structured building which is very impressive for Science and Arts along with new PG block, Commerce block, well equipped Library and Administrative block. Initially, the college was started as an Intermediate College in the year 1948 in the erstwhile Jail building (which housed the prisoners and after the prisoners were sent reformation centre). Due to sincere and dedicated efforts of Prof. K. Ramakrishna Udupa, the then Principal of the College whose tenure lasted for 11 years from 1964 to 1974, we have the present grand structure constructed by the P.W.D of Government of Karnataka. And in the year 2013 it has changed from Boys college to Co-education college. Now both boys and girls are studying in the college.

The College has the College Development Counsel (CDC) under the presidency of Sri. Srinivasa Gowda, the present Member of Legislative Assembly, Karnataka, to look over developmental affairs of the Institution, and lead the institution in the right direction.
