About Library

 

The college library is housed on the college campus in a spacious carpet area having well seating capacity and ventilated block. With a reading room and a Reference section, Periodical section,  Competitive Book Corner, Display of New Arrivals and so on the library serves as a central information centre for students, teachers and researchers. There are more than   8097 books, 06   Magazines and 6 newspaper available for students and staff to browse through. There is also an exclusive Book Bank facility for students belonging to SC/ST & Minorities. These books have been provided by Bangalore University & UGC RC.  Our Library serves as a central information centre for all kinds of information needs of its clientele. It endeavours to improve upon its services by adopting the best practices and implementing them for the benefit of patrons.

Library and Information Centre

The library is the heart of any academic institution and plays an important role in all academic activities of our institution. Keeping in view the aims and ives of the college (institution), the library has been planned, developed & is constantly improvised by staff under the guidance of the library council.

The library has adopted an open access system so as to facilitate readers to have easy access to the library resources. The library has also established s with other important libraries at regional level, in order to provide inter – library access for the benefit of students and teachers of the college. To assist the students and research scholars to locate literature, as well as information in research, general reference & current awareness, computerized catalogue have  been introduced.

 

Shiyali Ramamrita Ranganathan was born 12 August 1892 was a mathematician and librarian from India. His most notable contributions to the field were his five laws of library science and the development of the first major faceted classification system, the colon classification. He is considered to be the father of library science, documentation, and information science in India and is widely known throughout the rest of the world for his fundamental thinking in the field. His birthday is observed every year as the national library day in India.

Objectives of the Library:

  • To serve the academic community for the upliftment of the academic activities of the college.
  • To provide modern equipments for effective teaching, learning & research.
  • Providing computerized information, by electronic storage, retrieval and dissemination.
  • To cater the needs of the information to the users.
  • To provide current and complete information regarding the today’s trends.
  • To prepare the users for competitive examinations.

Facilities/Services:

Circulation Service:

The rich collection of information resources in the library is made available to the students, teachers for circulation. The library has been fully automated using NewGenLib integrated library management software. The entire collection and membership records are bar-coded and circulation transactions are made through the software.

Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC):

The bibliographic details of the entire library collection are made available through online public access catalogue. Users can search and browse through the catalogue without any intervention of the library staff.

Reference Service:

The Library has a very rich collection of reference sources , the reference section caters to all kinds of reference queries. It has a seating capacity of 30-40  students and 5-8  staff for serious intellectual pursuit.

Periodicals:

To fulfill the current information needs and to keep users abreast with the recent trends and developments in various disciplines, the library subscribes  6 magazines and 6 newspapers. Periodicals serve the serious as well as recreational information needs.

SC/ST Book Bank:

For the benefit of students belonging to SC/ST & Minorities, a separate collection of books is made available. These books have been provided by Bangalore University & UGC RC.

Information service/News paper clipping service:

Any important news, notices, circulars and other relevant information is notified on the notice board of the library.

Institutional Repository:

In order to harness the collective intelligence and wisdom of faculty members. This institutional repository consists of the research papers, articles, conference papers, presentations of faculty members & Students. These documents are being added to the repository.

Display of New Arrivals:

In this section Library displays Newly added books to the library notified on the New Arrivals Rack.

Old Question Paper:

Repository of Previous year Question papers(Bangalore university) for access to students and staff.

Competitive Book Corner:

Providing access to resources on competitive examinations to encourage competitive spirit and career orientation among students.

Orientation Programme/Library Tour:

Library conduct Orientation programme & Library Tour to orient the newly enrolled library user to the facilities and services provided by the library for First year students to optimize usage of the library.

Library Timings

  • Monday to Friday – 9.30 AM to 4.30 PM
  • Saturday – 9.30 AM to 2.30 PM

 

Rules and Regulations:

  • A borrower’s card will be issued to every student at the beginning of the year. It is not transferable. It should be surrendered at the end of the year.
  • Admission to the library is only on the production of the identity card.
  • Duplicate borrower's card will be issued if students lost the ID card
  • The student has to maintain discipline and silence in the library.

      ONE DAY INTER COLLEGIATE CRICKET TOURNAMENT

      The Department of Physical Education, under the leadership of Mr. JOCKIM D SILVA, Assistant Professor in English, organised Inter Collegiate Cricket Tournament. The tournament was a great success which was represented by twelve teams. The Department of Physical Education sincerely thanks Mr. Shivakumar, Halli cricket,for his untiring support. Thanks to The Principal, the teaching, non-teaching staff and the students for their support and encouragement.
