“Sociology is a science of social phenomenon subject to natural and invariable laws, the discovery of which is the of investigation”- Auguste Comte. The Father of sociology thus claimed the existance of the discipline Sociology to study the static and dynamic elements of the society. He was also of the opinion that Society evolves from a simple to a complex level based on the evolution of human knowledge. Society, thus has its own structure and function, which is subject to changes. Every Sociologist thereby is responsible in understanding the social reality and analyzing the changing structure and relationships. Sociology, being the youngest of Social Sciences plays an important role in understanding the social system and the things surrounding it. Everything in the social environment forms the basis of sociological analysis. All human endeavors becomes the scope of the discipline sociology.
The curricular and co-curricular activities of the department envisage the overall development of personality of the students. Students, being the stake holders are facilitated with the knowledge-base to equip themselves to suit to the dynamic nature of the society. Globalization and other processes of Social change becomes the basis for Sociological analysis. Students of sociology need to be good observers, they need to analyze why the things are the way they are? Hence every little things surrounding the society is observed and analyzed. The students thus need to develop scientific temperament. They should be able to contribute to sociological knowledge and should become capable of altering the same. This becomes the responsibility of the department. A continuous effort is on to sensitise the students relating to developing their personality, and also develop in them a sense of social responsibility. Socio-economic development demands the stakeholders to equip themselves with the ability to establish start-ups and other such areas to utilise their potential.
