Women’s education is thus a necessity, the removal of illiteracy and the universalization of education among women, becomes imperative for women’s development. To meet this great task in the backward region of Hyderabad-Karnataka, the Government of Karnataka established Government First Grade College in Gulbarga City, now (Kalaburagi) in the year 2007-08, and realizing the need of women’s higher education in the city the same was converted into Women’s First Grade College in 2008-09, is affiliated to Karnataka State Women’s University(Bijapur) ,now Vijayapur. The College is running in a beautiful building in the heart of the city, i.e., in Jewargi Colony. Kalaburagi is having the privilege of the First Government Women’s First Grade College in Hyderabad-Karnataka region. Well transport connectivity with CBST and Railway station, which makes much accessible to rural students.
Within a short span of time of 8 years, the college flourished with flying colours. This college is started with mere 32 students, now its GER reached to 911. Totally there are 4-UG courses, they are B.A., B.B.A., B.Com., and B.Sc., and 4-PG courses i.e., M.A.(Kan), M.A.(P0l.Sc), M.Sc.(Mathematics) and M.Com.
