Govt. Home Science College for Women Holenarasipura, an institute started in the year 2007 by the state Govt. of Karnataka. The college is affiliated with the University of Mysore and included in section 2(f) of the UGC act 1956. The College has been recognized as a well-known institute for providing quality education for women. Currently, the college is accredited with a "C" grade in the first cycle of NAAC with a CGPA of 1.52 in 2016. This College is providing education in Home Science related subjects along with other core subjects in combination. The institution is started with BA Program, then the B. Com Program was started in 2014-2015, B.Sc and M.Com programmes were started in 2020-2021. The Institution offers 6 UG programmes and one PG program for women. The CBCS scheme was introduced in the academic year 2018-2019 and the institution has taken measures and is prepared to implement the NEP from 2021-2022.
Holenarsipura is a town located in the river of Hemavathi and It is a home town of Ex-Prime minister Shri H. D Devegowda. Like any other town in India, this town is surrounded by villages. The majority of our students are children of agriculturists/agriculture laborers thereby economically poor and socially backward. The categorical profile of students reveals that more than 99% of the students come under SC, ST and OBC's. The institution has gradually increased the percentage of student enrolment. Currently, a total of 265 students are studying various courses. Nearly 60% of the pass-out students, in different years, have joined P.G courses and many of our alumni are working in different sectors.
The college has 1.01 acres of land accommodating the existing building of 1680 sq meters. The college has well-equipped infrastructure facilities like 14 classrooms, the Library, IT facilities, Laboratories, etc. The OBC's Women hostel is located in the college campus. The College Campus is a full wi-fi campus with a 100 Mbps internet speed. The College has a high profile faculties with research publications. The college has organized a national workshop on Life skills and study habits in 2020.
