| Channapatna is a city famous for toys. The geographical indication of the location is “The Toys City”. The toys manufactured here are world famous. The origin of the Channapatna toys can be traced back to the times of ‘Tippu Sultan’, the historic ruler of Mysore. The craftsmen use the locally available soft-wood from the Wrigtiatinctoria tree, which is known in the local dialect by the name ‘Aalemara’ by the people of Karnataka. The city has a rich heritage with the historical and mythological background. It attracts the tourists from all over the world being a hub of tourists, and is situated between Bengaluru and Mysore. The Government First Grade College, Channapatna was established on 27th June 1984 with the motto of providing quality higher education to the students hailing from rural areas. It began with 70 students in 1984 and now it has an incredible strength of 2,600 students in all four streams of Under-Graduation – B.A, B.Com, BBA and B.Sc, and three streams of Post-Graduation – MA in Economics, MA in History and MA in Kannada. The students’ strength has been steadily increasing a testimony to the immense potential of the institution. The college has been recognized Under Section 2(f) and 12(b) of UGC on 27.07.2006. The college has already undergone three cycles of the NAAC accreditation in the year 2003 with ‘C+’ Grade and in 2014 with ‘B’ Grade and in 2021 with 'B+' Grade. The college is funded by RUSA (Financial Year 2015-16) for infrastructural and academic development. It is the college with immense potential among all colleges affiliated to Bangalore University, and it will soon be recognized as a “Centre of Excellence” by the Department of Collegiate Education, and acquire autonomous status.
