Government of Karnataka has taken up new steps for the revolution of higher education through the establishment of new Government first grade colleges in Karnataka. During the year 2014-15 fifty colleges were established across Karnataka. Among fifty new colleges one of the college was sanctioned in rural area of Bettadapura in Mysore district.
Bettadapura is a town located in Periyapatana taluk in Mysore district in the Indian state of Karnataka. The name is derived from two kannada words ’ Betta’ and 'Pura'. Betta mens 'hill' and Pura means 'town'. The main crop grown is Tobacco and the place is known for farming India’s best quality tobacco which is exported to foreign countries. Bettadapura is known for its Mallikarjuna temple famously called as Sidilu Mallikarjuna. Once the place Bettadapura was ruled by Chola dynasty.
The Government First Grade College Bettadapura was established during the academic year 2014-15 with more than 100 students in Government higher primary school campus. The college shifted to the new building in the year 2018, with the establishment of this college rural student are really benefited to realize their dream to purse higher education.
In the past years, college has grown from increased students strength from year to year. presently 463 students are studying in BA and BCOM Cources.More then 70% of the students are girl belonging to economically weaker section of the society.
The college is valid with good teaching fraternity who are highly qualified and knowledgable, always channelize their efforts for overall development of rural students. The new building of the college is well equipped with big classrooms, separate library room and good drinking water facility and separate toilet rooms for boys and girls. The faculty also provide special training for various competitive exams and encourage all the students to apply for various jobs and provide all the information about competitive exams.
