Government First Grade College Basavanagudi which started functioning from 07-08-2020 was shifted from Sathnur in the academic year 2020-21 by the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education. The College is functioning in a building attached to Government Higher Primary School located beside the historical Gavigangadhareshwara Temple, Gavipuram Basavanagudi. A lush green park behind the campus provides outstanding ambience for learning. The College which is affiliated to the Bangalore City University with 40 plus students during its first year offers BA, B.Com and BCA courses.
Basavangudi, synergy of modernity and tradition is one of the oldest localities of Bengaluru- the Silicon Valley of India. The locality derives its name from the historical Bull Temple- ‘Basavana Gudi’. A vibrant commercial hub that has retained its endearing tradition and culture, is in proximity to tech parks like Brigade Software Park(2.3 km), Global Tech Park(5.2Km), Kalyani Magnum IT park ( 7 km), Enzyme Tech Park (6.4 km). This ideal location with excellent transport network, continuous support of proactive CDC president and members, supportive local enthusiasts and neighbourhood along with highly qualified and experienced faculty (with more than 55% doctorates), ably supported by office staff provides opportunity for students “to turn mirrors into windows”.
This constituency with the famous Bugle Rock Park- 3000 million year old rock formations has a total population of 4.86 lakhs spread over 17.76 sq kms. Though the main dialect is Kannada, it is multilingual with a cosmopolitan touch. The social and economic structure of the area is quite diverse with many established educational institutions catering to the needs of the higher education aspirants.
