Government First Grade college, Bangarpet was established with the permission of the Government of Karnataka during the year 1985. People fondly address the college as KC Reddy Government First Grade College. Bangarpet shares the border with neighboring Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh and is located next to historical city, Kolar Gold Fields. Bangarpet taluk is a place resided by people who are multi-lingual, and come from Dalit, backward classes and minorities, and students come from these communities. This institution from the beginning has been catering to the educational need of the rural and poor students. Apart from providing education, the institution is also helping the students to learn life skills, soft skills and computer skills to prepare the students to face the competitive world. The institution aims to inculcate the spirit of national integration and moral way of leading one’s life.
The institution began to operate from a Anganwadi Centre, with the course BA (HEP), and B. Com course with 7 students. Years on the student strength increased and during the year 2004, the campus was shifted to Sulikunte Road, near APMC Yard with well-equipped building on 8 acres of land. The institution is known for enforcing discipline with education and as on today the student strength is 1058. The courses offered are BA (HEP, HES, HEK, HEE & EPJ), B. Com., B.Sc. (PMCs), and the institution has staff with experienced regular faculties for all the courses. With rising demand from the student community, during the year 2019-20 the institution is permitted to commence classes for M.com. Government First Grade College, Bangarpet has of 18 rooms, and 10 of them are digital class rooms. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Seminar Hall has 250 seating capacity which is helpful to conduct the seminars. For the benefit of the students Edusat, virtual class and remedial classes are conducted. The library is well equipped with 37000 books and reading room and caters to the needs of the faculty and students. This institution has vast area, where students participate in sports activities under the guidance of able Physical Education Director. Units of NSS, NCC, Redcross and Scouts and Guides function in the institution for promoting extracurricular activities. During the year 2017-18, 134 free laptops were distributed among the students, who were admitted to degree classes during the year 2016-17. With the assistance of the students, a beautiful green park has come into existence on one acre of land in the premises. A canteen is available within the campus to provide cheap and healthy food for the students. The institution is encouraging for the overall development of the students.
In India all the degree courses come under the purview of University Grants Commission (UGC), and this institution is also functioning under the UGC. During the year 2007 the institution is recognized under 2F and during the year 2015 under 12B of the UGC Act. This institution is permanently affiliated to Bangalore University. During the year 2012, the institution went for the first cycle of National Assessment and Accreditation council (NAAC) and secured B+ with 2.58 CGPA. During the year 2017, the institution went for second cycle of NAAC and secured B++ with 2.89 CGPA and today it is a reputed institution in the entire District and State.
For the development of the institution various committees are formed under the leadership of the principal. Among the committees, the College Development Committee, Admission committee for guiding the students during admission, examination committee for conducting examination, Attendance Committee to monitor the students’ attendance, Scholarship Committee, Mother Theresa cell for women students, cultural committee for cultural activities, student grievance cell to solve their problems, assembly committee to promote sense of national integration, discipline committee, research committee to promote research activities among the students and faculty, IT Committee, Alumni Association ® for old students, parent teacher association, and for looking after all the committees an IQAC committee and NAAC committee is formed. The institution with the assistance of the coordinators and members of various committees, principal and staff, work for welfare of the students. For the overall development of the students and the institution, Government of Karnataka, department of collegiate education, local MLA, public, principal, staff members, and old students are making endless efforts.
