The Government first grade college, Arkalgud came into existence in the year 1984 with 17 students. The classes were started in the building of the Government Junior college. The need for own building was fulfilled in 1993 with the construction of a separate building on a campus of 9 acres. Since then it continues to be an important center of higher education. During the past thirty years the institution has developed in different aspects and has become a boon to the students of the surrounding villages.
It is a matter of pride to mention here that this collage is permanently affiliated to the University of Mysore. The collage has been accredited by the NAAC in the year 2004, at present college is preparing for NAAC reaccreditation. The Collage offers three years degree course in arts, commerce and management.
The institution has drawn up an action plan to impart knowledge and to enable students to cherish their creative abilities. Our aim is to convert information into experience. The institution is guided by the national education policies which emphasizes preparing efficient and skilled human resources for facing up to the contemporary challenges. This provides impetus for the nation and society’s growth. The institution constantly reviews the trends, best practices and standards followed by the academic institutions across the country and incorporate best among them with required modifications.
The cut off percentage set for admission at the entry level is 35% as we have to adhere to the existing govt. policies of merit cum roster system for admission at UG level. We make sure that the students from the disadvantage communities are adequately represented. As part of faculty improvement the staff members have been attending seminars, symposia and workshops at the state and national levels and the result has been translated in their teaching. Staff members are always committed to follow the best practices. There is constant encouragement for the staff to envisage new models of best practices which enhances quality.
To keep abreast with the times the institution has employed modern technology to skill development and for effective and engaged learning. The library has been provided with 5031 titles covering all the branches of knowledge. The library has 26503 books and subscribes to 20 national journals of branches of acquiring knowledge. Open access system has been introduced. The internet facility is open to all the students during the college working hours.
The students of the college have plenty of possibilities to express themselves and nurture their capabilities in order to become complete individuals. The college offers a platform to students for self-expression through various clubs and forums. The institution has cultural forum, heritage club, Political science forum, planning forum, women harassment cell, Commerce and Management Forum, placement cell.
