| Dr. S. Gopalaraju Government First Grade College, Anekal is the only government funded institution located between the borders of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states. It was in the year 1980 the institution took its birth by the efforts of local educational aspirants and generous contributions of Dr. S. Gopalaraju an NRI, in his name the institution is acknowledged as Dr. S. Gopalaraju Government First Grade College under the purview of Department of Collegiate and Technical Education, Government of Karnataka. The institution is accommodating an overall strength of about 530 students pursuing undergraduate programs in the streams of Bachelor of Arts (HEP, EPS, HES, HEK), Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business Administration affiliated to Bangalore University, Bangalore. Being running under the able guidance and supervision of well expertised teaching and non-teaching staff, the institution is catering to the educational needs of first generation learners of surrounding areas around Anekal Taluk. The institution is accredited by NAAC Ist Cycle in 2006 with B grade and IInd cycle react with stated in the year 2015 with B grade CGPA 2.11. In 2010-11 the college has been recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) of UGC Act 1956. Since 2015-16 the college has been funded under RUSA, MHRD. The institution has an existence of more than 40 years and has achieved various milestones such as organizing international, national level seminars, conferences, workshops, faculty development programs, students’ empowerment training program and so on. The College Development Committee (CDC) under the chairmanship and guidance of Honorable MLA B. Shivanna has been instrumental in bringing positive development for the college. The institution has well qualified, experience and competent faculty members who are enthusiastic and commitment in providing the educational and moral support to the students in fulfilling their career aspirations. Eight faculty members have Ph.D degrees, three faculty members have M.Phil degrees to their credit and four faculty members are qualified with UGC NET/SLET. The institution has two non-teaching staff who are active and supportive in carrying the academic activities of the college. The institution is well equipped with sufficient infrastructure facilities such as classrooms with ICT facilities, computer lab, language lab, business lab, EDUSAT facility and playground sprawl over an area of 5.13 acres of land. Various units for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to reach out all the stakeholders and society such as NSS, Red Cross, Rangers and Rovers, Career Guidance and Placement Cell, Student Counselling Cell, Women Empowerment Cell, Entrepreneurship Development Cell. Students have been trained and equipped into various indoor and out-door sports, has brought laurels to the institution in various inter-state, inter-university and inter-college tournaments. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has been established for quality sustenance and enhancement. IQAC has been instrumental in planning and implementation of various academic enrichment programmes and other activities to provide holistic development of the students. Career Guidance and Placement Cell of the Institution provides students the path of success by organizing various programmes like personality development, group discussion, interview skills, job fairs in association with other organizations. Entrepreneurship Development Cell has been established with motto of LEARN TO EARN: EARN TO LIVE, inculcating the entrepreneurial culture and fostering techno entrepreneurship among the student. Various other Committees/Units such as admission committee, examination committee, time table, discipline, cultural, anti-ragging, anti-sexual harassment committee has been formed to address various academic related issues. Teachers have been nominated as mentors for each class to resolve the academic and personal issues and encourage students to fulfill the academic desires and achieve success. Anekal is a semi-urban area which is considered as an important Taluk Head Quarters in Bangalore Urban District. GajaShilapura is the former name of Anekal Town. The origin of the name Anekal (Hailstone) is not known. It lies in the Southern part of the Bangalore Metropolitan area, around 35 Kms from Bangalore. Nadahabba Dasara has been a great celebration over the Taluk. Anekal is known for Karaga festival and several ancient temples. Muthyala Madu is a small picnic spot, with a waterfall and is 5 Kms away from the town. Anekal is famous for floriculture and Ragi. Ragi is the staple food supporting Agricultural fraternity and is called as “Ragiya Kanaja” which means Ragi Depot of Karnataka State. Anekal is one of the growing towns around Bangalore, with a lot of developments coming up in the vicinity and with major economy generating places like Electronic City, Jigani, and Hosur around it. Electronic City is the Pride of India and hub of Bangalore’s IT Companies is situated in Anekal Taluk. Anekal is known for Silk Industry and is home to number of skilled weavers.
